Random Photo of the Day, March 18: Sder Village

March 18 18

Walking towards Sder Village, in the 12 Villages region of Southern Meghalaya. My book The Green Unknown: Travels in the Khasi Hills ends with me and several companions walking along a ridge at night. Well, this is that same ridge, a year later (and in the daylight).

After I took this photo, I would go on to spend the night in Sder village, and then walk from it the next morning to another village called Mawlam.

Beyond Sder, the path plummets down to the even more remote villages of Tluh and Khobel (pronounced Khober)….those people were really surprised when I turned up.
